THE dead body of Leslie Clarkson, 30, of ‘D’ Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown, was found near his home early yesterday morning, clutching a live electricity wire wrapped around his waist.
Residents in the area, who made the discovery about 06:00 h, suspect that the man met his death on Sunday night, while trying to make an illegal electrical connection to his residence.
Clarkson operated a small grocery shop and lived alone.
Before his stiff corpse was taken away, to Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), where it is awaiting a post mortem examination, it was reported that his cow was similarly shocked two days ago.
Police said they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death on the theory of electrocution.
Over the years, scores of people, including children, met their demise in a similar way, despite Guyana Power & Light Inc. (GPL) campaigns, involving the Police.
The utility said people continue to put their lives at risk by stealing current, which results in millions of dollars losses annually.
