Livestock farmers sensitised to practical fundamentals at seminar
THE Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with the Regional Administration of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), hosted a seminar to educate and sensitise livestock farmers on the practical fundamentals of poultry, swine and small and large ruminants production. It was conducted in the Regional Boardroom at Anna Regina, on the Essequibo Coast, where Livestock Officer, Ms. Paula Daniels said the focus was on some of the basic requirements for the successful rearing.
She said the discussions were very interactive and the farmers raised several questions on the correct mixture of poultry feed to produce birds with less fat for the local market.
Daniels said they also talked about how to avoid wetness in pens and poultry growth problems.
With regard to swine, she informed that the aim of the Government is to improve breeding and, recently, some boars were imported from Suriname for the purpose.
