To address problems…

Some Essequibo fishermen moving to form new co-op
SOME fishermen in Lima and Sparta, Essequibo Coast villages, have announced that they are moving to form a new cooperative society to address several problems affecting them in the industry.
The group, of mostly young men, has approached the Regional Cooperative Officer, Mr. Doolar Singh for advice on drafting The constitution.
They told the Guyana Chronicle that ice supply is a big challenge for them because the Charity and Lima fishing complexes, also in that part of the ‘Cinderella County’, would only sell them it if they buy fuel.
They said their work depends on having ice to store their catch and the situation facing them is causing serious frustration.
According to them, the proposed new organisation will focus on establishing its own ice making facility, a gasolene station and a store with fishing equipment.
