EU sponsors holiday golf tourney

WITH just days to go before this weekend’s Guyana Open, golfers will be given one more chance to fine-tune preparations at the European Union (EU) Medal Play tournament billed for tomorrow (Eid-ul-Azha public holiday) at the Lusignan Golf Club. The tournament is expected to attract a large field including several overseas players who are already in the country for the Guyana Open as well as staff of the EU.
EU Ambassador Geert Heikens will lead a strong team which includes his wife Rita – an ardent golfer as well as, Albert Russell (head of Administration), Chris Ingelbrecht (head of Technical section) and Lindley Jones (head of the Economic section) all regular players at Lusignan.
Also listed to compete are Roy Cummings who won last weekend’s Digicel Classic, Bholawram Deo, Avinash Persaud, Colin Ming, Patrick Prashad, William Walker, Mike Mangal, Ronald Bulkan, Mark Lashley, Alfred Mentore, Christine Sukhram, Deoram Dinanauth,  Francois Montour, Gavin Todd, Dr Ram Singh, Andre Cummings, Mohanlall Dinanauth, Rawle Imran Khan, Troy Cadogan, Brian Hackett, Mike Gayadin, Chatterpaul Deo, Kashun Bacchus, Muntaz Haniff, Munaff Arjune, Vijay Deo, Carlos Adams and Ian Gouveia.
Tee off is at 08:30 h, Shot gun start.
The prizes will include best gross, best net in the men’s division, best net ladies and best net overall as well as second and third.
There will also be other special prizes.
The presentation of prizes will take place at the EU Ambassador’s residence in Turkeyen starting at 19:30 h.
Meanwhile, players have until tomorrow to register for the Guyana Open set for Saturday and Sunday at Lusignan.
The Guyana Open will be sponsored once again by beverage giant Banks DIH Ltd who will announce their sponsorship at a Media Briefing on Thursday.
There will be one ladies’ category 0-36 and three men’s categories 0-9 handicap, 10-18 and 19-28.
