Court told… House cleaner reported burglary after stealing

BURGLARY defendant Cicely Higgins, 35, of Lot 3075 Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, was yesterday put on $75,000 bail by Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry. The defendant pleaded not guilty to the break and enter and larceny charge that said the offence was committed last November 3, when she broke into the dwelling house of Donnette Parris and stole electrical appliances and cash, making a total loss, of $527,000, to the virtual complainant.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said Higgins went to clean the house and called the owner, informing her that her home had been broken into.
The Prosecutor said, when Police arrived at the scene, no sign of forced entry was found and investigations revealed that it was the defendant who took the items, because she had been given the keys to the building.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Rexford Jackson, for the Defence, said Higgins is employed by Parris.
The case will be called, again, on January 3, 2011.
