Bandits steal Supreme Court architectural fence

…valued at thousands of
OFFICERS of the Demerara Supreme Court, Georgetown, have reported that over 52  feet of the architectural fence around the building has been removed by bandits.
And, it is feared that the bandits,  who started dismantling the fence six months ago,  removing 40 feet on the  southern side  of the Court some weeks ago, and six feet on the western side as late as last Monday night, will strike again.

It is believed that the bandits will strike again to effect the removal of the entire western fence if they are not caught.
Legal pundits believe the bandits could be ‘drunkies’ and other thieves  who have a ready market in scrap iron dealers or some building construction operations in need of such materials to reinforce their concrete structures.
Deputy Registrar of the Supreme Court, Rasheed Mohammed, who confirmed the theft yesterday, said that the Police had been informed and are investigating the matter.
Mr. Mohammed pointed out that the fence enhanced the Supreme Court and it was as old as the building itself.   It is made of cast iron.
