THE man killed in the Sunday accident on New Hope Public Road, East Bank Demerara, has been identified as Cornel Ferreira, 26, of Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke/Linden Highway, Police said.
Ferreira was pronounced dead on arrival at Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) after the mini-bus in which he was travelling collided with a car and ran into a trench.
A total of 14 passengers in the mini-bus were injured and they were also taken to Diamond Diagnostic Centre, also on East Bank Demerara, where 13 of them received treatment.
Police reported that the mishap occurred about 17:30 h when the driver of BLL 2836 overtook a line of other vehicles proceeding North along the roadway.
As he did so, he was confronted by vehicles going in the opposite direction and attempted to go back into his lane of traffic but the collision took place.
