RITA Heikens proved to be a force to reckon with when she claimed victory in the  Sanjay’s Jewellery Medal Play golf tournament on Saturday at Lusignan Golf Club, East Coast Demerara.
Rita, the wife of European Union Ambassador Geert Heikens the only female player in action at the tournament, defeated her male counterparts with a net 66 from a gross 96 playing off a 30 handicap. She was also second in last weekend’s MACORP competition.
Muntaz Hanif (handicap 17) was second with a net 67 from a gross 84.
Reigning Guyana Open champion Avinash Persaud (handicap 2) parred the course (the standard score assigned to each hole on a golf course) in secured third spot with net  68 from a gross 70.
Alfred Mentore was Nearest to the Pin.
William Walker, Lusignan Golf Club captain thanked Sanjay’s Jewellery for their continued commitment to the Club.
Last Saturday was the second tournament sponsored by Sanjay ‘s Jewellery whose Managing Director  “Sanjay” Persaud celebrated his birth anniversary recently.
