THE Ministry of Housing and Water has signed a $24.7M contract for the rehabilitation of a half-mile stretch of road in the Block R Sophia. This intervention was made following a meeting with several residents and the Minister of Housing and Water, Irfaan Ali on August 14, at Freedom House.
Chief Executive Officer- Central Housing and Planning Authority, Myrna Pitt, noted that the Ministry is in the business of improving the lives of community members.
Senior Engineer – Central Housing and Planning Authority, Fazal Wahab, indicated that work on the road is scheduled to commence in two weeks. However, the contractor has committed to commence work tomorrow and will complete the road before Christmas. The contract was awarded to Cleon Chung of Chung’s Global Enterprises.
He noted that the Ministry also has other ongoing work in Sophia. These include the allocation of $600M and $400M for work in Sections A, B and C Sophia and Cummings Lodge, respectively. A new well is also under construction in the vicinity of the University of Guyana. This is expected to improve the water supply.
To improve the quality of life for Guyanese the Ministry of Housing and Water has been ensuring that Guyanese are provided with adequate house lots and potable water. (GINA)
