Alpha continues GFF Super League dominance

POINTS leaders and national club champions Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United continued to dominate the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Super League competition when they chalked up a commanding 3-0 victory over Buxton United at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground last Friday night.
Dwight Peters, Anthony ‘Awo’ Abrams and Philbert Moffat found the back of the net in the 6th, 33rd and 80th minute to seal Buxton United’s fate and at the same time, pushed their team to 33 points at the top of the table with five matches to play while Buxton United remained in 9th position on 12 points, also with five matches to play.
In the feature game of the evening, football fans gathered at the venue were treated to a thrilling and entertaining encounter between Victoria Kings and Seawall United, which the latter came out victorious by the odd goal to nil, courtesy of an Adam Hoyte 67th minute strike.
This win is the fourth successive victory for Seawall United in the second round, following their drawn matchup with Alpha in their first game and it pushed them to seventh place in the points standing with 16 points, with two games remaining.
The action continues today at the same venue, with Sunburst Camptown taking on Milerock at 17:00h in the opening fixture with the feature game which kicks off at 19:00h promising to be a scorcher as it involves points leaders Alpha and the Guyana Defence Force.
At Blairmont, Bakewell Top XX and Rosignol United will collide from 16:00h in a matchup both teams need to win to solidify their position in the points standing, since Rosignol has 20 points and Bakewell Topp XX 12.
Meanwhile, in the GFF’s Women Inter-association tournament, two games will be played this Saturday with the Bartica Community Centre ground playing host to East Demerara who will throw down the gauntlet at the home team from 18:00h.
At the GFC ground, Georgetown and Linden will do battle from 16:00h, with the final game in this category of the competition being played on Saturday 6th November between Georgetown and Rupununi at the Lethem ground from 16:00h.
