More such editorials from the Chronicle are needed

THE Chronicle’s latest editorial on the maternity deaths is needed, if Guyanese are to recognise how necessary it is for all to play their part if we are to progress and take responsibility for successes or failures. The editorial points are worth repeating again – Some ending up in the health care system are clearly not cut out for the job or simply join the medical profession because they want a job. There is a urgent need for the suggested increased focus in the training programmes on attitude, as well as the establishment of a body to deal with complaints of poor service. It is clear that better supervision and monitoring by senior medical personnel are needed at public institutions.

I wish the Chronicle would address the tendency to see programmes implemented but not properly monitored by ministers and other officials, without any accountability actions taken. Chronicle must continue addressing critical issues, regardless of who is involved.
