Trio on gun, ammo charges remanded

THREE men were yesterday remanded to prison on joint charges of illegal possession of a gun and ammunition. Aubrey Denny, 20, of Lot 52 Pere Street and Nicholas Sancho, 22, of Lot 215 David Street and Orino Collier, 23, of Lot 67 Ramhit Road, all Kitty, Georgetown addresses, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
The trio pleaded not guilty to the offences, particulars of which said, on September 23, they had one .38 revolver and five matching rounds without licences for them.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Mark Waldron, who represented the men, questioned the circumstances of the find and Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said the firearm and bullets were found under clothing in a room where Denny lives.
The lawyer then submitted that, even if the discovery was made in Denny’s home, the other two defendants should not have been charged because they had no knowledge of what was discovered there.
However, bail was denied the men and their trial is scheduled to start on October 11.
Richard Clarke (no address given) was also refused pre-trial liberty in the same Court after he pleaded not guilty to simple larceny.
It is alleged that he, last September 29, stole a motorcycle valued $250,000, property of Nigel Gravesande.
The defendant claimed he bought the motorcycle from his friend around 04:00 h and the battery failed, causing him to leave the vehicle at a mechanic shop.
However, Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant saw the motorcycle at the shop.
Clarke will remain on remand until October 20.
