Puerto Rico whips St Martin to remain unbeaten
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, (CMC) – A goal in each half from set pieces propelled Puerto Rico to their second successive win in the Digicel Caribbean Cup as they comfortably beat St Martin 2-0 on Monday.
Playing at the Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium in Group A, John Krause struck in the 25th minute before Cristian Arrieta made sure of the points 11 minutes from time.

“When the match was one-nil we could not relax, you just don’t know what could happen so the second goal was crucial for us,” said head coach Colin Clarke.

Puerto Rico, who trounced Anguilla 3-1 on Saturday, opened the scoring near the half-way mark when Krause pounced on a loose ball in the penalty area following a free kick from the left wing.

The 26-year-old collected the ball, turned and sent a thunderous right-footed volley through a crowed penalty area to put the hosts ahead.

St. Martin failed to find an adequate response and with Puerto Rico pressing for their second goal, were forced to spend much of their time defending.

Not much changed for St Martin in the second half as Puerto Rico continued to dominate. However, they were forced to wait until deep in the second half before they could seal the deal.

The second goal arrived in the 79th minute when Arrieta, a big central defender, met a corner kick with a lovely glancing header which easily beat goalkeeper David Saintil.
