The battles begin today at the Providence Stadium
THE Guyana National Stadium will bear witness today to the kick off of another preliminary round in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under-20 as Guyana, Jamaica, Grenada and the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) clash to see who progress to the final round.
The action gets underway at 17:00h when Jamaica clash with Grenada then the home team, Guyana, challenge the USVI in the feature showdown which begins at 19:00h at the Providence Stadium. The competition continues on Friday where USVI meet Jamaica and Guyana face Grenada; then on Sunday Grenada battle USVI and Guyana go head to head with Jamaica.
Yesterday, a press briefing was attended by representatives of the four countries at the office of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF).
There the three visiting teams expressed their delight to be welcomed on the soil and said that they hope it will be a very well organized and contested tournament.
These teams were quite confident of moving on to the next round despite some having insufficient preparation time while others, like USVI and Grenada, have been working quite hard to make a good impression in the tourney.
Eyes will be on the underdogs of the tournament, USVI, who played terrific football to make it through to this round while powerhouse Jamaica won’t be pushovers since they have been prominent at this level for some time.
