Man accused of robbing student remanded

AKEEM Cross (no address given) was yesterday refused bail, by Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, on a robbery under arms charge. He pleaded not guilty to having been armed with a pair of scissors, on October 1, robbed student Michael Thomas of an Ipod valued $20,000.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, who successfully objected to pre-trial liberty for Cross, said the defendant has more cases pending in other Courts.
The Prosecutor said the virtual complainant was on his way home from school when the defendant brandished the weapon and demanded the instrument but the victim’s friend raised an alarm and chased after the robber.
The remanded prisoner has to be back in Court on October 7.
Leon George (no address given either) suffered a similar fate, in the same Court, on a break and enter and larceny charge.
Particulars of the offence, to which he pleaded not guilty, said last September 25, he broke and entered the premises of Speed Talk Mobile Inc. and stole one ‘LCD’ monitor valued $150,000 and a $200,000 laptop computer in booty with a total value of $1.6M property of Michael Stord.
The Prosecutor said the owner had secured his store and left but returned to find that a wall had been breached.
Harvey said Police investigators took fingerprints from the crime scene and all matched those of the defendant.
The case will be called, again, on October 22.
