A statement from the Secretariat reads, “On behalf of the Caribbean Community, I wish to express deepest sympathy to the Government and people of Mexico and particularly to
the families who have lost loved ones to the disastrous mudslides brought on by Tropical Storm Matthew, which has severely affected several parts of southern Mexico causing a number of deaths and injuries, extensive property damage and homelessness.
“We are distressed to learn that in the process, the storm has flooded many cities, towns and valleys, destroyed thousands of homes, damaged historic sites and inundated broad stretches of farmland
“The Caribbean Community expresses its solidarity with the Government and People of Mexico in this moment of national pain and grief, and is confident that with courage and hope, the people of Mexico will recover and rebuild,” the statement concluded.
