PATRICK Smith, 28, of Lot 167 Curtis Street, Albouystown, who faced a break and enter and larceny charge before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry yesterday, was put on $125,000 bail.
In addition, he was ordered to report at Brickdam Police Station, also in Georgetown, every Friday until October 18.
Earlier, he pleaded not guilty to having, on September 24, broken and entered the dwelling house of Kowsilla Persaud and stolen four speakers and other things, valued total of $898,000.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Adrian Thompson, for the defendant, complained that the latter was beaten by unknown persons and suffered a broken arm.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, said public-spirited citizens saw when Smith and others were removing the booty and gave chase after them but only apprehended Smith and beat him.
