Kissoon’s statement is filled with bile and raw vitriol

I refer to Freddie Kissoon’s ‘King Kong’s  bridge in the news’ on 16.9.10 via KN, in which he  disparagingly described the Berbice Bridge as  that “ugly un-modern structure” in the initial paragraph, before moving on to deal with the issue of West Coast  Berbice mini-bus protest, in a manner that can only be described as inciting ethnic passions.
What a statement! What a description! And just how did Kissoon arrive at such an extremely strange description, is best left to his strange and alien imagination! Does he live in this world?
Now, I am not an engineer, nor a technological expert. Therefore, whatever knowledge I would have gathered over the years relative to such an expertise would be purely for layman’s general knowledge.
Thus, any criticism pertaining to such a matter as the structural form of a bridge, as a matter of principle, is best left to those who are competent to do so.
I think that I can safely opine that structures are done in accordance within the given technological framework, with the relevant materials, intended to suit the trappings and confines of the particular field that will bring it into functioning existence.
And since engineering is about steel and iron, the designed end-product is not going to be pretty, as, say, a nicely painted building.  Please correct me, if I am wrong.
I recall sometime ago, Britain’s Prince Charles speaking in almost similar tones, in describing the new architecture that had been replacing the well known traditional British architecture.
He is known to be a defender of retaining traditional architecture, and would have made such a statement(s) without malice. But not Freddie!
The tone of Kissoon’s statement is filled with bile and raw vitriol, all directed at the person who made the dream of a bridge across the Berbice River possible.
This is the ranting of an insane human. It is lunacy to the highest level, as there is no Guyanese, even those in the political opposition, who will agree with such tripe.
This columnist cannot lift himself above partisanship, and be objective. Such behaviour can only be described as grudging.
What makes a bridge, that costs US$40M and which has made travel and communication between the Berbice divide, so much easier, in addition to increasing economic activities and development, “ugly”?
From a purely layman’s perspective, Freddie, this is a magnificent structure and feat of engineering. And it is very modern, too. No amount of spite will undervalue its critical role in this nation’s social and economic development.
