GT&T outfits ruggers for Commonwealth Games campaign

THE Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company Ltd (GT&T) has once again answered a call for corporate intervention which on this occasion came in the form of green blazers that the company presented to the Guyana Rugby Football Union’s (GRFU) National Men’s 7s team which departs Guyana today en route to the Commonwealth Games which will be held in Delhi, India from October 3-14.
Thanks to the telecommunications provider the team members will be well clad as they serve as sports ambassadors for not only Guyana but the entire region.
GT&T’s Deputy General Manager Terry Holder said that it was once again GT&T’s pleasure to be associated with the championship team that consistently affords the nation pride and glory.
Holder backed his faith in the team’s abilities by noting that they recently came off of a victorious streak as they won the North American and Caribbean Rugby Association’s (NACRA) Caribbean Championship as well as the Central American and Caribbean Games titles.
After giving reason for his infallible faith in the local ruggers Holder gave his best wishes to the team on behalf of GT&T as they move on to the new challenge that is the Commonwealth Games.
President of the Guyana Rugby Football Union Christopher ‘Kit’ Nascimiento noted that it was an extremely generous gesture on the part of GT&T whom he acknowledged as a consistent sponsor and advocate for the development of rugby not only on the local scene but also throughout the Caribbean.
He thanked Holder on behalf of the GRFU and informed him that had it not been for GT&T’s magnanimity the cost for outfits would have been compounded with the GRFU’s expenses for the trip.
Nascimiento gave an idea of how far the gesture will go in serving the GRFU by saying that if the blazers do not succumb to wear and tear they will be worn by the team that will go to the International Rugby Board’s 7s World Series which will be held in Las Vegas in February of next year and they also hope to use them again for the team that will be going to the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, in October of next year.
