Alleged triangular affair…
FORMER television reporter Odella Patterson (no address given) was charged with abduction, following an incident Thursday, surrounding an alleged triangular love affair.
But she was freed on her Court appearance yesterday after the virtual complainant declined to give evidence against her on the indictable charge before new Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry.
The allegation against Patterson had said she abducted Tenesha Fernandes, on September 9, in Georgetown, to cause her to be secretly confined.
But the charge was dismissed after Fernandes, at the insistence of Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, entered the witness box and swore that she did not wish to proceed with the case.
In his narrative of the circumstances, the Prosecutor said the accused and virtual complainant were friends until the relationship became sour.
He said, on Thursday, Patterson went to Fernandes’ workplace, at Guyana Telephone & Telegraph Company (GT&T) on Brickdam, where she requested to speak to her.
Telford said Fernandes went out to her and Patterson stopped a taxi and forcefully pushed her in the car which sped away with the two of them inside.
He said an alarm was raised by the victim and the vehicle was traced to Sleep In Hotel, on Church Street, also in Georgetown, where the two women entered a room and an altercation arose between Patterson, her husband, who was there and Fernandes.
After taking the oath not to continue the prosecution, Fernandes was ordered to pay $25,000 costs for wasting the Court’s time.
