Local Pakistan Relief Fund reaches $21.3M

CENTRAL Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) President, Haji Fazeel Ferouz has disclosed that the local Pakistan Relief Fund has raised $21.3M.
He said, with the telethon series now ended, CIOG is working together with all the other participating agencies, religious, private and public, to mop up the final pledges made.

Ferouz said team leaders responsible for the business community, Nalini Vieira and Kahakan Ramjohn are still in the process of tallying what was promised and received from that source.
He said his committee is focusing on accumulating $25M within the next two to three weeks but pointed out that, if the expected response from corporate sources is realised, the sum garnered might reach $30M.
Ferouz said the money will be transferred from Guyana to Pakistan, through the United Nations Flash Flood Appeal Programme, later this month.
