GPL donates $570,000 giving back to community

THE Guyana Power & Light (GPL) yesterday donated $570,000 to several organisations as part of their aim to give back to the community. At the ceremony in its Duke Street, Kingston, Georgetown Head Office, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr. Bharrat Dindyal explained that, for many years, the utility has ascertained the needs of the beneficiaries and contributed to them without taking credit but yesterday’s event was one to mention.
He said GPL has been engaged in many charitable events, such as its school educational programme, to sports and even to individuals seeking medical attention overseas.
Dindyal said the exercise is necessary and, as a corporate entity, GPL recognises the need to play a role in contributing to the lives of others in a meaningful way.
He said, through its Benevolent Committee, GPL continues to reach out to persons and organisations by way of request and, in many instances, has lent a helping hand.

One of the institutions to benefit, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) received a cheque for its annual athletics championship.
Head of the Sports Department, Assistant Superintendent Colin Boyce and Deputy Commissioner Leroy Brummel expressed gratitude for the financial assistance gifted the GPF.
For GuyEnterprise, Ms. Maria Choi accepted a cheque for its ‘Old Story Telling’, an educational programme also involving ‘Stabroek Warriors’.
Guyana Karate College got a donation to aid construction of a building at Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown.
It was also announced that Queenstown Nursery and Primary Schools and Sparta and C.V. Nunes Primary Schools, on the Essequibo Coast and the Theatre Guild Playhouse in Georgetown will also be recipients.
