THE worker that was pulled in by the machine at Barama Company and
minced to death recently, was a sad accident. Indeed that was a gruesome death. My sympathy goes out to this man’s family and friends. What I will like to know is was there any observation of occupation and health standards? I know Barama Company usually equips their workers with helmets and safety booths etc. I have visited that company on several occasions.
What I wish to say is that Minister Manzoor Nadir was out on a sensitisation campaign to get companies and businesses to observe occupational health and safety rules. I know of several big agencies who still flout these standards, and until some thing is wrong or an accident happens then a system is put in place for a short period of time. I proposed a system of policing by trained officers to keep checking on agencies especially manufactures from time to time so as to make sure that all the prescribed standards are observed.
