GCCI lauds members for investing in local economy

GEORGETOWN Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has commended the Private Sector moves to invest in the local economy.
In a statement last week, the business community organisation said its members were congratulated for investing significantly, not only in their own interest but that of the national economy, as well.

“Over the past few months, several private companies have made significant investment,” said the statement, including Guyana Telephone & Telegraph Company (GT&T), Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI), National Hardware, Starr Computers and Safeway Security.
“GT&T’s E-magine Broadband initiative deserves to be lauded since it has advanced the level of efficiency in Guyana’s telecommunications sector. Also, in the IT Sector, Starr Computers has recently introduced its ‘Xfinity Lite’ (Student Edition) system, available at a cost of $69,000, which, it is hoped, will give many more the opportunity to own a computer system,” the statement said.
GCCI acknowledged Starr Computers’ efforts to bring affordable services to Guyanese and noted that GBTI’s commissioning of its $2.6 billion corporate office is seen as a step in the right direction towards improving banking in Guyana.
GCCI also applauded National Hardware for purchasing 103 acres of land at Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown, to be used for housing, recreational and commercial purposes.
The statement said Safeway Security is continuing its effort to bring security products and services to Guyanese, by introducing the ‘Enforcer’ product line which covers a variety of products, among them surveillance and access control equipment, burglar and motor vehicles alarms and electronic security supplies.
Safeway Security has just been named the sole distributor in Guyana for Enforcer products which are manufactured by SECO-LARM, an American company that was established some 30 years ago.
“GCCI endorses the investments made by these private companies and is committed to being a catalyst for development and growth among our membership and the business community at large,” the statement ended.
