Husband, wife died in Friendship accident

The road carnage continues…
A HUSBAND and wife of 44 years yesterday died in an accident on Friendship Public Road, East Bank Demerara, involving their motorcycle and an alleged unlicensed taxi driver.
Noland and Khairool ‘Lynette’ Doliviera, of Lot 6 Public Road, Grove, were struck down by a motorcar about 17:00 hrs.

Mrs. Doliviera, 63, was pronounced dead at the scene while her husband, 70, was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) but later died from his injuries.
Reports are that the couple, who are Jehovah’s Witnesses, had just concluded a bible study at a Kingdom Hall located in the vicinity of Friendship and were returning home when tragedy struck.
According to reports, a private car, driven by a young man, was proceeding in the opposite direction to the Doliviera’s and was in the process of overtaking another vehicle when the couple was thrown off their motorcycle.
An eyewitness told the Chronicle last night at the GPHC that Mrs. Doliviera was found with her skull cracked open and with an ankle almost severed.
Initially, her husband’s life was thought to be out of danger, for it appeared as though he only suffered broken limbs with a few scratches.
However, it was later revealed that he also suffered from internal bleeding and a damaged spine. A CT scan was subsequently conducted on Mr. Doliviera but he died shortly afterwards.
The Doliviera’s two children, David and Deborah, were not seen wailing at the GPHC as they got the news of the death of the second parent, but immense grief was observed on both their countenances.
The driver of the motor car, who was taken into police custody at Grove Police Station, was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, was speeding and swaying and was not in possession of a valid driver’s license.
The Doliviera’s were well-known in their community as they preached the good news from door to door for reportedly over five decades.
A great number of their fellow Jehovah’s Witness brothers and sisters from several congregations turned up at the GPHC last night to offer their support to the remaining family members.
Mr. Anthony George, who studied the bible with Mr. Doliviera some five years ago, explained how he benefited from the kind of person the deceased was.
He described Mr. Doliviera as a good teacher who taught him bible truths and which made him a better person. George added that he was never forced into believing anything and that his bible teacher was a very intelligent man.
According to him, Mr. Doliviera “rides like a turtle” and usually takes caution in everything that he does.
