Guyana Jags, Soca Warriors set to ignite Guyana National Stadium

THE Guyana Golden Jaguars team will collide with Trinidad and Tobago’s Soca Warriors in a historic match on September 26 when the inaugural Kashif and Shanghai-organised President’s Cup International Friendly unveils at the Guyana National Stadium.
The one-day event will see the Golden Jaguars battle with the top-ranked team in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) rankings, also seeded at 76 in the FIFA World Rankings.

In the preceding match, the Guyana Under-20 Jags team go head-to-head with the Twin Island’s Under-20 team.
At a  press briefing the directors of the Kashif and Shanghai organisation, Aubrey ‘Shanghai’ Major and Kashif Muhammad, along with president of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Colin Klass, revealed the necessary steps they have taken in the assembling the  aspect of the showdown.
In the GFF president’s brief remarks he made it clear that the federation was quite supportive of the venture the organisation has undertaken – to bring these two teams together for the development of football.
“I believe the way for our football to develop is by staging international meetings as such and being able to derive the best possible team to represent us at a higher level,” Klass said.
He added that the preparation will be a lot of work to complete in such a short space of time but because the match will be staged on home turf, they are not prepared to lose.
“The competition comes very timely since our football season has recently resumed and will better help in our preparation for the upcoming Digicel Cup and other competitions,” he added.
This will indeed be Guyana’s strongest Golden Jags since Klass revealed that a number of overseas-based Guyanese, including professional English League player Ricky Shakes, will be arriving to join the locals.
Joining the locally based players will be Christopher Bourne, Walter Moore, Howard Newton, JP Rodrigues, Alinani Mounter, Shawn Beveney, Fabian Brown, Chris Nurse, Sean Cameron, Jake Newton, Jason Lloyd,  Gregory Richardson and Gamaal Breedy.
The tournament organiser disclosed that they are working towards turning the September 26 event into a triple-header but are awaiting confirmation from a Surinamese National Under-17 squad to oppose a Junior Jags Under-17 team.
Kashif and Shanghai co-director Kashif Muhammad concisely implied that the organisation will undertake to get the Guyanese public more aware of players who have represented and will be representing their country in the future.
