MV Kimbia arrives safely in Georgetown

– mechanical difficulties cut short journey to North West
The MV Kimbia, which plies the Georgetown/North West route, arrived safely last evening at Port Georgetown.
The vessel experienced a cut shaft in its steering mechanism which made it incapable of continuing on its outward journey to the North West on Thursday evening.

A tug, Viking 3, was dispatched to tow the vessel back to Georgetown.
Minister of Transport and Hydraulics Robeson Benn emphasised that the vessel, which was transporting over 340 passengers, was in visual contact with the MV Northcote, and towing of the boat commenced at 07:15hrs yesterday.
Arrangements are being put in place for the speedy repairs to the vessel.
