The victim of the fatal accident at Providence, East Bank Demerara, on Monday last has been identified as Dindyal Chetram, 56, of First Street, Grove, also on the East Bank Demerara.
The police said the accident occurred at about 01:20 hrs at Providence Public Road, when the driver of motor car PLL 2595 was proceeding along the roadway when the deceased attempted to cross the road and was struck down. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital. The body is at the Lyken Funeral Parlour.
The driver of the motor vehicle is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, Police said they have launched an investigation following the discovery of the partly decomposed and unidentified body of a male.
The body is of East Indian descent, about 45 years old. The body was found at about 13:00 hrs yesterday among bushes at Latchmansingh Sand Road, Soesdyke, East bank Demerara.
It was clad in a green jersey and cream short pants and is now at the Le Repentir Mortuary.
