AN INCREASING number of schools are proud of this year’s performance at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations, and Richard Ishmael is one of them, recording an overall pass rate of 93 per cent this year.
Among the best performers are Melissa Drakes with 10 subjects, Mandy Mangal with 10 subjects, Obitre Hytmiah with eight subjects, Carl Alleyne with nine subjects and Kevin Dhanram with eight subjects.
In a statement to the media, it was noted that the school, located in the Georgetown Education District, obtained 100 per cent passes in 14 out of 23 subject areas. The other nine areas recorded passes over 90 per cent, with the exceptions of Mathematics with 60 per cent passes and Spanish with 50 per cent.
According to the statement from the school, performance has significantly improved in English Language with a 96 per cent passes, English Literature with a 93 per cent, pass and Geography with a 100 per cent.
Overall, out of 120 students that sat the examinations, 116 secured passes in five to 10 subjects.
Additionally, the School of the Nations reported impressive results at Cambridge’s International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE).
A total of 322 entries were made for 21 subjects and the overall pass rate was 80 per cent. In Environmental Management, Geography, English Literature, Physical Education, Spanish and Travel and Tourism, 100 per cent pass rates were recorded.
In a release, School of the Nations indicated that more than 32 per cent of all the examinations written were give an ‘A’ or ‘B’ grade.
Among the outstanding performers were Osei McKenzie with 10 subjects, Shefali Holder with nine subjects, Ryan Fraser with nine subjects, Pritipaul Singh with eight subjects, Kester Daniels with eight subjects, Kathy Mohamed with seven subjects, Raphael St. Hill with six subjects, Sheik Ahmad with six subjects, Milton Urqhart with six subjects and Serejej Stammes with five subjects.
