Hockey Festival semi-finals set to flick-off today

… Guyana Internationals among the teams
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) – Old Gold Roosters, comprising several former Trinidad & Tobago and Guyana internationals, have reached the semi-finals in the mixed division of the Barbados Hockey Festival.
In its 25th year, the Festival has been spread around three venues on the island during the last week, and it reaches a crescendo as the title hunt begins today at the Wildey Astroturf facility.
The final four from the mixed division came from three pools, and sees holders Rockets, the Pool A winners, clash with Roosters, the best second-placed team from Pool C.
Pool B winners Nedstar, and Pool C winners UWI will line-up to contest the other semi-final.
Elsewhere, last year’s men’s champions Dyside of Barbados did not make the semi-final stage, so the final four will consist of Pool A winners All Stars against Pool B runners-up Combermere Boys, and Pool B winners Dominion against Pool B runners-up Do Badd Crew.
The usual suspects have made the women’s playoffs, with defending queens A Badd Connection recovering from a shaky start to come second in Pool B to set-up a semi-final with Pool A winners UWI, while Pool B winners Deacons meet Pool A runners-up Bajans Fuh Real consisting the members of the Barbados Under-18 national team.
The veterans’ element brings the real international flavour to the festival. Die Keuelen of Germany topped the round robin table, and meet newcomers Linduku Colts of South Africa who were fourth.
Previous winners All Stars meet local arch-rivals Maple, the defending veterans’ champions in the other semi.
