The Civil Defence Commission (CDC), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), will be hosting several training workshops for stakeholders of the recently formed National Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis Committee (DANA).
The Committee, which operates under the project title “Building National and Local Capacity for Disaster Response and Risk Reduction”, is in keeping with the CDC’s mandate to meet the needs of the population in the face of threats from natural and man-made disasters.
Tomorrow, stakeholders will be briefed on the role and responsibilities of the committee, while on August 23 to 25, they will be trained on the reporting system and the use of tools designed to conduct the assessment.
During the same session, stakeholders will also be integrally involved in the DANA process and an emergency operation exercise.
The training sessions will be conducted at CDC Headquarters, Thomas Road, and will commence at 9:00h daily.
The National Damage Assessment operations policy framework and plan were finalised and recently approved by Cabinet for implementation.
The Committee was formulated following a meeting in January when 15 representatives at the policymaking level met to discuss future actions needed for a standard DANA system for Guyana. (GINA)
