IT seems that it is raining with a vengeance over the past few days with short periods but higher intensity which is testing our drainage system that can cope with approximately one and a half inches of rainfall for 24 hours in a given area. With this in mind, I would like to comment on the work of the Ministry of Agriculture and its agencies which are undertaking the clearing of numerous canals; even in some instances those outside of their mandate just to safeguard vulnerable communities.
Recently the Ministry of Agriculture undertook some critical works for the first time in 20 years to benefit my community, which should have been the responsibility of another entity. Despite that, residents welcome the intervention and hope that more support will be forthcoming to ensure the collective increased drainage capacity of East Bank villages.
Over the past few weeks intense rains have been threatening the livelihood of farmers and residential areas along the East Bank, but with support from the Ministry of Agriculture’s NDIA, several critical canals were cleared that allowed speedy drainage of high levels of water. For this we the residents of Mocha and other surrounding communities are grateful for this support that allowed us to continue our farming activities and most importantly residents had a sense of being secure from being flooded.
Pleased with drainage works carried out by Ministry of Agriculture
