COMMUNICATIONS giant Digicel Guyana Inc. handed over $270 000 and a trophy to the Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) in support of their Post-Emancipation Day Race Meeting 2010 which will be held on Sunday, August 15, at the club’s Bush Lot Farm race course. The donation is intended to go towards the 3 year-old Guyana and West Indies bred category which will be run over one mile and fetch monetary prizes of $350 000 for the first place finisher, $175 000 for second place, $87 000 for third place and $44 000 for fourth place. The trophy will also go towards the champion horse and jockey duo in that category.
The top horses that will be competing in that feature event are Zelona, which will be riding the momentum from its win last week at the Norman Singh Memorial Turf Club, Sabrina Princess, Celebration Time, Peaceful, 5 Star General, Gabriel’s Gold and Stormy Deal.
Honorary President of the Kennard Memorial Turf Club, Justice Cecil Kennard, expressed his happiness at Digicel’s magnanimity and his gratitude as a result of the company’s generous donation.
Dwayne Scott, who made the presentation on behalf of Digicel, related that his company was happy to sponsor the meet. He said that Digicel always plays it part as a corporate citizen and that yesterday’s presentation was yet another indicator of that fact.
The other races set for the day are the K & L, the F & Lower Classes which will be contested over 6 furlongs, the 2-year-old West Indies-bred class which will be contested over 5 furlongs, the I & Lower Class which will be run over 7 furlongs and the B & Lower Class to be contested over one mile
