POLICE are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at about 07:15 h yesterday at the Esso Service Station on Vlissengen Road, Georgetown. Supervisor, Cindy Dhanraj and three other female employees were in the mini-mart of the Service Station, when three men armed with firearms entered and held them at gunpoint.
It was about 07:10 h three young men arrived at the Station just as the employees had showed up for work.
Reports said the robbers entered the Esso Shop forcing the sales girls to open the cash register and ordering them to lie face down. They took away $13,000 in cash and about $200,000 worth in phone cards.
The bandits also smashed the re-enforced glass door leading to the inner office but were unsuccessful in their entry.
They also lashed the female employees about their bodies before escaping with the loot.
During the ordeal, the pump attendants sought refuge at the neighbouring Shell Gas Station.
The police arrived on the scene sometime after the gunmen had already made good their escape on foot.
Up to press time the bandits were being hunted by the police.
