‘Jumbie’ Jones wins first prize in Berbice raffle

COMEDIAN Linden ‘Jumbie’ Jones was awarded an eatable Berbice Bridge as the first prize in a raffle organised by Wattsan’s Catering, of Lad Lane, in New Amsterdam. The awardee  had attended the recent Berbice Expo at Canje Community Centre Ground, also in Berbice, where the caterer was an exhibitor during the four-day exposition, where the $100 entrance fee made attendees eligible to win a prize.
The Berbice Bridge, a six-pound iced cake was designed by Courtney Liddell, a co-owner of the business.
He said the idea to make it was first conceptualised after he recognized that the real structure is a vital link that joined the rest of Guyana to Berbice County.

“In addition, it was the company’s first attendance at the trade fair and we wanted to make it a memorable one,” Liddell said.
His sister, Claudette said it was a pleasure giving back to the community which has supported them for over a decade.
Added to the Berbice Bridge, another novelty cake called Dora and a basket cake, second and third prizes, respectively, were won by Ravendranauth Kowlessar, of Lot 7F Bush Lot, West Coast Berbice and 12-year-old Neil Lalloo, of New Street, Cumberland, East Canje.
The prizes were handed over at the donor’s business place yesterday morning.
