Welfare policy contributes to most Black American women being unmarried

I would like to comment on the above issue by Ehi Aimiuwu. While it is true that Black women in urban America find it economically advantageous to remain unmarried, the fact of the matter is that this is a situation that has been created by the government and used by many poor communities especially the Black and Puerto Rican communities as means to easy entitlement and to perpetuate themselves in poverty. A mother will not get social security (Welfare) benefits if a working father is around. So what does she do? She kicks him out or lives with him in a common law relationship.
When he gets tired of this, he moves on and leaves her to bring up the kids with the aid of the government. This behaviour has created havoc in the Black and Puerto Rican communities and is the number one cause of poverty; poor education and crime in the minority communities. There are no appropriate male role figures around. It is also the cause of very high pregnancy rates among teenage girls. They see pregnancy as a way to getting money from the government and to gain some measure of independence.
