PRESIDENT Bharrat Jagdeo was reportedly given a warm welcome and the keys to Caracas during a function at Plaza Bolivar, following his arrival yesterday in the Venezuelan capital for a high-level meeting with President Hugo Chavez.
He was also declared an “illustrious visitor,” Radio Nacional de Venezuela reported late yesterday, quoting the Associated Press.
According to Radio Nacional, President Jagdeo, who was there on a fleeting visit, was expected to meet at the end of the day with President Chávez at the latter’s official residence, Miraflores Palace , to sign a series of agreements.
Among those in his entourage are Agriculture Minister, Mr. Robert Persaud; Foreign Minister, Mrs. Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett; and Home Affairs Minister, Mr. Clement Rohee.
