Husband remanded on reputed wife abuse, assault

MOHAMED Yusuf, 33, was remanded to prison yesterday on three charges.
Before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, he was charged with malicious damage to property, using abusive language and assault, to all of which he pleaded not guilty.

It is alleged that, on July 17, Yusuf caused $500 damage to windows at the home of Bibi Sattaur and assaulted and abused his reputed wife, Nikolena Boodhoo.
Boodhoo told the Court she has been living with the defendant for 14 years and has four children for him. However, this was not the first time he has been charged for being abusive to her but she would, usually, feel sorry for him and not proceed with the cases.
But she said she cannot take it anymore because, every time Yusuf consumes alcohol, he would behave in the same manner and, being unemployed, does not support the family.
He is to face trial on August 7.
