Woman nabbed in airport drug bust remanded

RABEENA James, the woman nabbed in the July 13 drug bust at Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton yesterday.
Charged with trafficking, it is alleged that she had two kilogrammes of cocaine for the purpose but she pleaded not guilty.

Police Inspector Frank Thompson, prosecuting, said she was apprehended by ranks from the Narcotics Branch after her two suitcases aroused suspicion when passing through the baggage scanning machine, as she was about to board a Liat flight to Barbados.
The Prosecutor said, upon checking, the ranks found the prohibited substance concealed in false walls of the suitcases.
James (no address given) was remanded to prison and the case was transferred to Providence Court, also on East Bank Demerara, for July 19.
