Prison Service Inspector remanded on immigration charges

GUYANA Prison Service (GPS) Inspector Kevin Brown has been charged, on three counts, with conspiracy to commit a felony, illegal entry and uttering a forged document.
He appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday when it was alleged that, on July 14, he arrived to Guyana by sea without presenting himself to an immigration officer.

Brown, of Lot 32 Ramhit Road, (formerly Public Road) Kitty, Georgetown is also accused of forging a Guyana passport issued to Eon Junior Grant between June 1, 2007 and July 14, 2010.
The third charge against him, to which he also pleaded not guilty, said, on July 14, Brown attempted to enter Guyana from the Moleson Creek foreshore, with intent to defraud Police Constable Renny Grant, an immigration officer.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Patrice Henry, representing him, said the defendant has an unblemished record and should be granted reasonable bail but Police Inspector Alexis David Hossannah, prosecuting, objected to the grant, pointing out that Brown has another case of the same nature pending and might want to forge a travel document and leave the jurisdiction.
Consequently, the defendant was refused the grant and has to make another appearance on July 28.
