Man refused bail on woman assault charge

AUBREY Garraway, 58, was refused bail yesterday when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson on two charges of assault causing bodily harm.
It is alleged on July 12, the defendant assaulted Celeste Wayne, in her Louisa Row, Georgetown home.
But he pleaded not guilty and told the Court he had an intimate relationship with the virtual complainant and would usually visit and help clean her home.

Garraway said, on that day, he was on her steps fixing his bike with a screwdriver when he heard another man’s voice inside the apartment and, when he ventured in, the other man abused him and, during a scuffle that ensued, Wayne bit him.
However, she denied ever having been intimate with Garraway but admitted that he helped her move into her new home and would assist her there.
Wayne said that day, the defendant appeared at her residence intoxicated and touched her where she did not like. So she tried to push him off and he wounded her on her neck with the screwdriver.
Garraway was remanded to prison until July 27.
