Akawini Health Centre gets bigger outboard engine

GOVERNMENT, through the Regional Administration in Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), has donated another outboard engine to the Akawini Health Centre in lower Pomeroon River. The donation is to boost the delivery of free health care to residents living on islands in the sprawling Akawani savannahs.
Regional Chairman, Mr. Alli Baksh, who handed over the 40 horse power (hp) ‘Yamaha’ and other accessories to health worker/midwife, Mrs. Leota Durga at Bara Cara Stelling on Wednesday, said Government wants to ensure that all Guyanese have equal access to free health care.
He said residents of Akawini live in very remote areas and the motor will be used by the health worker to visit every home.
Baksh said emergency cases will be transported quickly to Charity Hospital now that a new, bigger engine is available.
He also charged Durga not to misuse the engine.
Present at the handing over, too, were Regional Executive Officer, Mr. Sunil Singh and Toshoa of Akawini, Mr. David Wilson.
