Balwant Seeram, called “Bird”, who died by drowning, was buried yesterday at Kaneville Cemetery, East Bank Demerara.
His mother, Irene Balwant, 68, told the Guyana Chronicle that he was on his way to a farm to work on Sunday morning but had stopped to help at friend at Kofi Koker to empty a water-filled boat. When the bucket he was using to dip the water fell overboard. He went in to retrieve it and was sucked away by the tide.
His friend tried to hold on to him, but Seeram slipped away.
Police said they are investigating Seeram’s death.
His decomposing body was found at about 09:00 hrs on Tuesday in the vicinity of the GPL wharf at Garden of Eden, East Bank Demerara.
Information was received that he was building a boat at a koker at Garden of Eden on July 4, 2010, and had fallen into the Demerara River.
