THE MUCH-anticipated ‘Glamorous’ fashion event is on at the Pegasus tonight and CEO of Guyana Fashion Weekend Sonia Noel promises “lots of drama.” The drama goes back to 2008 with hyperventilating and fainting models, and in 2009, when ‘wild card’, Jamain Victor came back with a vengeance after his elimination the previous year and snatched the Male Guyana Top Model title.
Noel also reminds us about female winner, Yolanda Kerr who caused such a stir on the catwalk at Fashion Week Trinidad and Tobago that she caught the eye of an international designer who immediately requested a private photo shoot.
This year promises to be no less exciting, Noel said, as plus-size models will be included.
The competition is now down to six finalists in the three categories. For the males we have Steven Bagot, Jason Shurland, Esau Humphrey, Anthony Stayman, Darren Mc Almont and Osafo dos Santos.
The female lineup comprises Cardella Hamilton, Alicia Kirton, Alisa Williams, Jenelle Dougall, Gerecia Francis and Alana Phoenix. Plus-size models comprise Latoya Whitehead, Okessa Lynch, Tristana Roberts, Michon Pertab, Pamela Vaughn and Luciana James.
The designers and stylists had added the finishing touch to their collections, and it promises to be the most exciting year for creativity, Noel said.
“The stylists are coming up with creative ideas to make the designers collection come alive,” she said, adding: “This project is in the third year, and is inspiring aspiring designers, stylists, and models to hope for the future. Thank God and our partners for believing in us to make a difference in young people’s lives in our society.”
A designer herself, Noel said that two wild cards were brought back into the fold after being eliminated. They are Fiano Spencer and popular basketball player, Tyrone Hamid, who is a favourite among the ladies.
Could this be another ‘wild-card’ upset? G
Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Tonight’s event will be held in the Pegasus’ Savannah suite and is scheduled to get underway at 20:00h.
