Former WI opener Haynes is Barbados team manager

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) – Desmond Haynes will be part of the Barbados team management for the inaugural Caribbean Twenty20 Championship, which will be played on his home soil and Trinidad & Tobago from July 22 to 31. The Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) announced yesterday that the former Barbados captain and West Indies opening batsman will be manager of the team, and replaces former national youth team manager Livvy Coppin in the role.
The appointment is the latest administrative post in Barbados cricket for the 54-year-old Haynes.
He has served in the position of first vice-president of the BCA, and was also chairman of the national selection panel, since he retired from playing the game.
“Mr Haynes has expressed delight at his appointment and is pleased that he has been given the opportunity to play a role in the development of Barbados’ cricket,” said a news release from the BCA.
Last year, Haynes played a key role as coach in guiding Carlton to the two major national limited-overs titles on offer.
He is now the technical adviser of the club, serving alongside former Barbados fast bowler Dale Ellcock in conditioning the Division 1 side.
Haynes played 116 Tests and 238 One-day Internationals for West Indies between 1978 and 1994.
The other members of the management unit for the national team is head coach Emmerson Trotman, assistant coach Vasbert Drakes, and physiotherapist Jacqui King, as well as captain Ryan Hinds, who was re-appointed to the position.
The Barbados squad is playing four trial matches over the next few weeks as part of their preparation for the CT20.
