THE MINISTRY of Agriculture through Guyana Marketing Corporation will partner with Guyana Fashion Weekend today for an event which promises to showcase Guyana’s talent in the culinary arts, by utilizing local fresh fruits and vegetables to further promote the ‘Grow More’ campaign.
This is according to a press release from the Ministry of Agriculture.
Managing Director of Guyana Fashion Weekend, Sonia Noel, in expressing her gratitude to the Ministry, said: “I am very excited that the Ministry of Agriculture has been supporting us. ‘Cutting Styles’, which is a fusion of the culinary arts and designer fashion, was actually coined out of my support for the Grow More Food campaign launched by the Ministry a few years ago.”
Agriculture Minister Robert Persaud, in an invited comment, stated: “As the Ministry of Agriculture presses ahead with its diversification strategy, it will continue to support events such as ‘Cutting Styles’.”
“Using our fresh produce and products,” he added, “is an investment into the future. The merger of food into the fashion industry brings a whole new and exciting approach to how we promote our fruits and vegetables.”
The Ministry has been encouraging persons to consume foods made from local produce. It notes in the release that buying local products not only supports local farmers and businesses, but also supports jobs for local people.
Today’s event, titled ‘Cutting Styles’ and scheduled to start at 20:00h at the Duke Lodge, in the Kingston neighbourhood of the city, will feature the creativity of the fusion of the culinary arts and fashion.
‘Cutting Styles’ promises to be an evening of unbelievable talent. A designer will be paired with a chef, and all the themes chosen will be from a fruit or vegetable grown in Guyana; this is in an effort to endorse Guyana’s agricultural drive.
Local products, the release says, can be found at GMC’s ‘Guyana Shop’ located in Robb Street and throughout all major supermarkets across the country.
