CEO of local charity charged with unlawful wounding

CHIEF EXECUTIVE Officer of the Rodney Ferguson Charity, Mr Theopholus Ferguson decided to exercise very uncharitable actions when he engaged in a physical battle with his neighbour, resulting in him being charged and placed before the Cove and John Magistrates court. He pleaded not guilty to the offence.
The court heard that on June 6, 2010, Ferguson, of Lot 351 14th Street Paradise Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara, unlawfully and maliciously wounded his neighbour, Julian Soloman.
What sparked the feud between the two was not clear to the court, but the police made mention that a piece of wood was used by the defendant, who dealt the virtual complainant several lashes about the body.
The fifty-one-year-old was represented by Attorney- at- Law, Mr. William Samson, who, in his bail application, told the court that his client is not a flight risk.
But Police prosecutor, Mr Lloyd Thomas objected to bail, stressing that Ferguson and the virtual complainant live next door to each other and, if released on bail, there is a possibility that the defendant can repeat the offence.
Ferguson was nonetheless placed on $50,000 bail by Magistrate Shurdell Isaacs- Marcus.
He returns to court on October 27, 2010.
