– four others also charged
POLICE Constable Keon Richmond, 23, of Lot 44 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, who is attached to the Tactical Service Unit (TSU), was put on $300,000 bail last Friday, when he and others faced illegal gun and ammunition charges.
Before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo at New Amsterdam Court, it was alleged that, on February 25, Richmond and four other men were in a white ‘Toyota Carina AT 192’ motor car, HB 5559, at Vryheid, West Canje, also in Berbice, where a .38 revolver and one live round were found in the pocket behind the driver’s seat.
The other occupants of the vehicle, Shemroy Corlette, 21, Cleroy Williams and Yougendra Bheemsingh, both 19, of Lancaster Village and Michael Butcher, 24, of Manchester Village, also on Corentyne, were denied pre-trail liberty but, subsequently, secured the grant in the High Court.
All the defendants are to be back in the Magistrate’s Court on July 7.
