‘Shakira’ was born to sing

SOUTH American red hot chili pepper hot, “Shakira” was born to sing and perform the World Cup Soccer official song “Waka Waka” as she did during the Johannesburg concert.
The opening ceremony was to the level I expected and I maintain to this day that there is absolutely no one who will come close to the Chinese for the 2008 Beijing Olympics opening ceremony in the very near future.

So far, the games are fun and excitement and I honestly can’t wait to witness a head butt like Inane did during the last World Cup Soccer. Of course, it is un-sportsmanship but it comes with the territory.
Keeping on sports, again I have to say well done to Jessica Stephenson who is overseas based and produced once again some impressive results at the TT National Long Course Championship as carried in the KN dated June 10, 2010.
The same goes to the Karate ambassadors who also just returned with medals from another overseas meeting. I hope that maybe the officials of this fraternity might also consider approaching the Guyana Olympic Association and discuss the possibility of a couple of potentials who can join the contingent of other athletes selected for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Should the outcome become fruitful, fund raising activities need to get planned and executed because this could help offset partial expenses along with others in sending off those hopefuls. A general start for everyone is to tap into the Emancipation Day celebrations by securing some booths and move from there.

Another sport I am looking at keenly is “Rugby” which I believe is heading into the right direction and Guyana could very well be a force to be reckoned with in this department. I am hoping to be available for the rugby tournament which is slated for the Providence Stadium in late July. Seeing that schools will be closed during that period, it’s the perfect holiday sports treat which can also generate interest with hopefuls who might have the potentials to take it up.

I believe that the business community in recent times have been making some great efforts with it’s support and the most recent is non other than “Fitness Express” with it’s help to “Calvin Belgrave” who will be representing The Golden Arrow Head along with others at the Hampton Games slated for TT in a matter of a couple of weeks.

Track and Field is at a junction which everyone within that fraternity needs to pool all their resources together and build as a team. So, Gold Strides, AAG, GDF and Police needs to sit once again around the discussion table and work out some plan of action in having “Gold Strides Track and Field Games” become a reality which has been postponed from June 13, 2010.

A quick update is that Veronica Campbell Brown (Jamaica) ran 21.98 and edges my queen Allyson Felix (USA) who ran 22.02 for second (200m) at the Adidas Grand Prix June 12, 2010 in the US.
