Guyana Fashion Weekend CEO, Sonia Noel said in a recent release, Guyanese designer and models gave commendable performances at Fashion Week Trinidad and Tobago.
Noel said that the setting for the start of the event was a “sight to behold”. She said that a modern, white, transparent dome was erected on Pigeon Island; the moonlight shining on the sea was visible from inside the 65 ft runway, for two nights of fashion.
This was the backdrop against which she launched her resort line which included a slippers line which got rave reviews, and did shoots for Profile Magazine, Caribbean Belle, She Caribbean and Metro Canada.
On Wednesday evening the five night spectacle began at the ballroom of the luxurious Hyatt Regency. Guyanese models Meleesa Payne and Model Search Winners Yolanda Kerr and Jamain Victor in designers clothing.
“I was extremely proud of them the way they carried themselves on and off the runway” said Noel. The same sentiments were echoed by Guyanese International Journalist Walter Greene.
A total of 50 designers showed over the week and the event got a public endorsement from the new Prime Minister Kamala Persaud Bissessar on Friday evening showing. She said her government is looking at alternative industry and fashion is one of them and she will ensure that Trinidad will produce world class designers like their athletes and other things they are known for.
The event attracted media attention from London, Toronto, New York and the Caribbean. Guyana’s Fashion Weekend will be hosted in October 30 & 31 at the Pegasus Hotel.
